Wawa launches ‘Catering to Our Communities’ initiative
Company is accepting nominations from schools, community organizations
Wawa Inc. is looking to recognize “unsung heroes” in schools and community organizations across its operating area throughout six states and the District of Columbia.
The convenience store chain has launched a “Catering to Our Communities” initiative that offers eligible organizations the chance to submit a nomination and story about their unsung heroes.
Organizations can visit www.wawa.com/cateringcare to share a story about someone they work with that deserves recognition. Nominations are being accepted through Sunday, Feb. 20.
Winners will be celebrated with a catered lunch on National Employee Appreciation Day on Friday, March 4.
“As a company committed to caring for local friends and neighbors, Wawa has launched the Catering to Our Communities initiative to extend care to those unsung heroes who have tirelessly served their communities these past few challenging years,” Chris Gheysens, Wawa president & CEO, said in a statement. He added that schools, hospitals, first responders, senior centers childcare centers, and other community service organizations are invited to nominate heroes from their organizations.
Up to 100 organizations will be selected from Wawa’s operating area. They will receive a delivery on March 4 that includes a complimentary catering party of hoagies and chips, soft pretzels, chocolate chip cookies and Wawa Teas for 30 employees. They will also be provided with “tablecloths, clappers and festive selfie props,” according to a press release about the initiative.
To be eligible, school and community organizations must be located in Wawa’s operating area, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C. In addition, organizations must be available for an in-person delivery on Friday March 4 between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
The online nomination form asks for the name of the nominee, the type of organization, information about why the nominee is an “unsung hero” and why they would benefit from a Wawa catering party. The written explanation is limited to 250 words.
