Peck helps VA Tech stay unbeaten in ACC

BRIE PECK (ROYERSFORD/SPRINGFORD) » The Virginia Tech freshman utility player has played a big role in helping the No. 6 Hokies out to a 21-3 start, including a 9-0 mark in Atlantic Conference play. Peck is batting .328 with five home runs and four doubles in 22 games, including 20 starts.

Peck went 7-for-9 with two doubles, two homers, six RBI and six runs scored in a sweep of Syracuse March 11-13 then followed with a 3-for-6 performanc­e with two doubles, a homer, three RBI and four runs scored in another ACC sweep of North Carolina this past weekend.

GABRIELLE SIMMS (PHOENIXVIL­LE/ POPE JOHN PAUL II) » The University of Sciences senior outfielder had a big day as her team swept Lincoln 18-0 and 12-5 in a doublehead­er Sunday. Simms went 3-for-4 with a pair of triples in the opener, scoring four runs and driving in two more. In the second game, she went 1-for-5 and scored another pair of runs.

Taylor Hamm (Perkiomen Valley) saw her first action of the season (she started 24 games for the USciences women’s basketball team) in the doublehead­er, finishing 2-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Simms, an All-America honorable mention last season, is having another strong season. She is hitting .422 with three home runs, 14 runs scored and 10 RBI through 14 games played.

TAYLOR LINDSAY (HEREFORD/UPPER PERKIOMEN) » The York College senior pitcher tossed a complete game (five innings) in her team’s 9-1 victory over Alvernia University on Saturday to salvage a split in the MAC Commonweal­th doublehead­er. She struck out four batters and allowed just one hit as she worked around six walks to allow just one earned run.

Lindsay’s second complete game improved her to 2-0 on the season. She now has a 1.11 ERA in four games as she’s allowed just three earned runs through 19 innings of work.

ASHLEY REMINGTON (COLLEGEVIL­LE/POPE JOHN PAUL II) » Holy Family senior Ashley Remington hit her first homer of the season and sixth of her career in a loss to Jefferson on Sunday. Remington’s shot over the left-center field fence to tie the game at 4-4, and she finished with a 3-for-4 game at the plate, but Holy Family dropped the contest 9-8.

Remington has started nine games, playing in three more for the Tigers (3-15) and is hitting .240.

Baseball

NOLAN GRABER (PENNSBURG/ UPPER PERKIOMEN) » The West Chester graduate student earned his first win of the season in the Golden Rams’ 14-8 victory over Mansfield on Sunday. Coming out of the bullpen, Graber allowed two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings, walking one and striking out two.

A transfer from Ursinus College, where he was a second team all-conference selection last season, Graber has made six appearance­s for West Chester this season, posting a 2.19 ERA in 12.1 innings of work while tallying 15 strikeouts compared to just three walks. He came into Sunday’s game allowing just one run in his first 10 innings this season. SAM MORRIS (SPRING CITY/OWEN J. ROBERTS) » The Millersvil­le freshman right-handed pitcher and outfielder had used his arm and bat for the Marauders on Sunday as they capped a threegame sweep over Bluefield State on Sunday with a 17-11 win. Morris helped the Marauders score 10 runs in the first inning with a grand slam. He also picked up his first collegiate pitching victory with three strong innings of relief work.

He finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and five RBI at the plate and also struck out five batters while allowing one hit in his three innings of work on the mound.
