POTTSTOWN » Summer is just around the corner, and students from third to 12th grades have a chance to learn, perform and have fun at this year’s Steel River Playhouse Summer Camps.

“Music Theater Summer Camp at Steel River Playhouse provides children with the chance to create, collaborate and have fun while storytelling through singing, dancing and acting,” said Stacey Michaud, education director.

The camps are divided into two sessions, with choices for rising third through rising sixth graders and rising 7th through 12th graders. Each age group has the opportunity to participate in two different sessions with two different shows this year, “The Little Mermaid Jr.” and “The Music Man Jr.” Youth can register for one or both camps.

Camp sessions run for two weeks from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the first session beginning on June 27.

“The Little Mermaid Jr.” tells the story of a beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, who longs to leave her ocean home-and her finsbehind and live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she is the girl whose enchanting voice he has been seeking.

In “The Music Man Jr.,” master showman Harold Hill is in town and he’s got “seventy-six trombones” in tow. Can upright, uptight Marian, the town librarian, resist his powerful allure?

The story follows fasttalking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize. The catch? He doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, whose belief in Harold’s power just might help him succeed in the end in spite of himself.

The cost for each camp

will be $553 with payment plans available.
