5 locals make All-PSAC women’s lacrosse teams

Five Pioneer Athletic Conference alums were featured on the AllPennsyl­vania State Athletic Conference teams released Monday.

IUP sophomore defender Hannah Sharkey (Royersford/SpringFord) was chosen to the West division first team. Four locals were named to the East division second team: Bloomsburg senior attack Kelsey Kilgallon (Spring City/ Owen J. Roberts), Millersvil­le senior midfielder Grace Cobaugh (Collegevil­le/Pope John Paul II), Millersvil­le junior midfielder Kristi Kada (Gilbertsvi­lle/Boyertown) and East Stroudsbur­g junior defender Maggie Sell (Perkiomenv­ille/ Perkiomen Valley).

Sharkey, one of three IUP first team selections, has a team-high 30 caused turnovers with 37 groundball­s for 12-5 IUP. She forced a turnover in 14 of 17 games, including two-or-more caused turnovers in 10 games.

Kilgallon earned her secondstra­ight All-PSAC East secondteam selection after leading the team with 47 goals and 17 assists for 64 points. She finished the year 10th in the league with 2.76 goals per game. She averaged 3.76 points per game. Kilgallon eclipsed the 100-point mark for her career and finished with 124 points behind 80 career goals and 44 career assists.

The versatile Cobaugh led the Marauders in draw controls and caused turnovers, while also recording 33 points off 27 goals and six assists. The senior’s 110 draw controls led the PSAC East and ranked third in the conference.

Kada, a transfer from Seton Hill, fit in immediatel­y in her first season with the Marauders, recording 49 points off 37 goals and 12 assists. The junior ranked second on the team in draw controls with 71 while also scooping 31 ground balls and causing 14 turnovers.

Sell is integral in ESU’s top-10 defense in terms of goals allowed average, ranking second among Warriors with 28 caused turnovers and 40 ground balls. With Sell’s help, ESU ranks second nationally in caused turnovers per game (13.73), first in ground balls per game (24), sixth in scoring defense (6.20) and seventh in scoring margin (9.40).

Women’s track & field

TEAGAN SCHEIN-BECKER (TRAPPE/ PERKIOMEN VALLEY) » The Rider senior set a school and personal record and finished in fifth place in the college women’s 1,500 meters at Penn Relays with a 4:18.32 on Thursday.

On Saturday, she also ran with Lydia Wallace, Oliva De La Torre Coca and Mackenzie Greenfield on the 4x800 relay, which broke a Rider record by 12 seconds with their third-place performanc­e at 8:49.99.

Baseball

JASON SMILEY (ROYERSFORD/ SPRING-FORD) » The Immaculata University junior chipped in toward his team’s doublehead­er sweep of Neumann University Saturday. The Macs opened with a 7-6 win before taking the nightcap 3-1.

Smiley touched off a five-run fifth in the first game, hitting a single and coming around to score. He was 2-for-3 in the game, playing right field as Immaculata improved to 11-3 in the American East Conference and 22-10 overall.

Smiley sports a .303 batting average with 30 hits, three doubles and 12 RBI.

JACKSON MALOUF (SCHWENKSVI­LLE/ SPRING-FORD) » The College of New Jersey freshman lefthander logged seven scoreless innings and picked up the win in Friday’s 7-0 win over Rutgers-Camden. Malouf gave up two hits, struck out five and walked three while allowing just one Camden runner to get as far as second base. Malouf has a 3-2 record in seven appearance­s (six starts) for TCNJ this season, logging a 3.90 ERA. He has 27 strikeouts and 16 walks in 32.1 innings pitched.
