Phoenix Book Club

The Phoenix Book Club, Phoenixville Public Library’s book discussion group for adults of all ages, will meet virtually on Monday, July 11, at 7:00 PM. The group will discuss “The Mystery of Mrs. Christie,” the bestselling novel by Marie Benedict. December 1926: England unleashes the largest manhunt in its history. The object of the search is the missing wife of a WWI hero, upand-coming mystery author Agatha Christie. When her car is found wrecked, empty, and abandoned near a natural spring, the country is in a frenzy. Eleven days later, Agatha reappears, claiming amnesia. She provides no answers for her disappearance. That is…until she writes a very strange book about a missing woman, a murderous husband, and a plan to expose the truth. A physical copy of this book may be reserved at https://www.ccls.org. An e-book copy may be reserved at https://chester.overdrive.com. The public is invited to attend this free event, which will take place online via Zoom. American Revolutionaries

Phoenixville Public Library will host a free online presentation from Philadelphia’s Museum of the American Revolution, “The Same Principle Lives in Us: People of African Descent in the American Revolution”, on Monday, July 11 at 7:00 PM. American Revolutionaries struggled with a key question: would the words of the Declaration of Independence, that “all men are created equal,” apply to all people?” From the outbreak of the Revolution, people of African descent asked and answered this question through their words and actions. In this talk, hear the stories and explore the objects that we use at the Museum to help imagine what the Revolution was like for Phillis Wheatley, Elizabeth Freeman, James Forten, Harry Washington and others. This event is free and open to the public and will take place online via Zoom. Registration is required at https://ccls.libcal. com/calendar/Phoenixville/ same-principle or by calling 610-933-3013 x132. Email mpinto@ccls.org for more information.
