Superintendent Fegley announces retirement
The search for his replacement begins immediately
Alan Fegley has announced that he will retire as Phoenixville Area School District superintendent by the end of August.
An educator for 45 years, Fegley has served as the superintendent since June 2010.
His retirement announcement came in the form of a video posted on the school district’s website.
In the video, Fegley praised the staff, administrators, school boards he has worked with and the community itself.
“The accomplishments over the years have occurred because of the desire and commitment of everyone to make sure all students belong and are encouraged to reach their full potential,” Fegley said, adding, “Phoenixville is a very special community, and I know I will truly miss the friendships and yes, even the challenges we have faced together.
“I am also confident that the board, administration, faculty, staff, and community are primed to continue the outstanding work we have undertaken,” he also said. “There is still much to do, in fact, that is what makes the work of education so much fun. However, now it is time for me to put my energies elsewhere and start the next segment of my life.”
Among the things still to do are the construction of a new elementary school in East Pikeland, as well as finalizing the sale of the former kindergarten center, if a court approves it.
Fegley was previously superintendent of the Haddonfield School District in New Jersey. His hiring in June of 2010 came after a lengthy search process.
During Monday’s school board meeting, Fegley’s retirement letter was accepted by the board. The board also hired a search firm, Hazzard, Young, Attea Assoc., which will begin the process of finding Fegley’s replacement.
On the company website, the firm says the first of its four phases is to “engage stakeholders and develop a leadership profile and selection criteria that matches the priorities of the community.”
