Mast Roofing accepting nominations for roof giveaway program

For 11th year, contractor will award a roof to a deserving family

Replacing or even repairing a roof is a major expense for homeowners. Mast Roofing & Construction Inc. is once again looking to take away that stress and worry for one area family.

The Oley-based roofing contractor is accepting nominations for its annual roof give-away program — Project Peace of Mind.

It is the 11th year the company has committed to the program — gifting a homeowner with a new roof. Originally called No Roof Left Behind — a national program in which Mast participated for nine years — Mast Roofing implemented its own version last year.

Corrie Mast, coordinator of Project Peace of Mind for Mast Roofing & Construction, said that when the national program ceased operations, Mast Roofing didn’t want the initiative to end so it developed something new.

“First and foremost our reason for doing this year after year has been to share the blessings we have been granted by being a blessing to those around us,” Mast said. “A new roof can be a large expense, and there are many people out there that, through no fault of their own, just plain can’t afford to pay for one. And that is a huge worry that they carry every day.”

She added that the Peace of Mind program allows the company to lift that burden from a family.

Who is eligible?

The Project Peace of Mind program is open to residents of the five counties Mast Roofing services: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lehigh and Montgomery.

Individuals can nominate themselves or someone they know who needs a new roof. Nominees must own the home and must be current on their mortgage and taxes.

The nomination form is available online. It asks for information about the nominee and the person submitting the nomination. It also asks about the condition of the roof — including the age of the house, whether the roof leaks, the current roof material, the style of the house and a description of the roof.

The nomination form also asks why the person is a good candidate for the project — whether they have experienced financial hardships or had an unexpected situation arise.

Mast previously told MediaNews Group that the company is looking for a family or individual in need — someone who even making payments would be too difficult for.

Once the nomination period closes, the staff at Mast Roofing & Construction will review the nominees and choose the recipient. The roof recipient will be revealed in June on Mast Roofing’s Facebook and Instagram pages, and the installation will be scheduled.

Mast said there is an added benefit of the opportunity for the whole company to all be in once place and complete a project together.

“It’s the nature of our business that normally half of us are out at clients’ homes and half are working in the office, so to be together for such a happy occasion is so fun,” she said.

Addressing a need

When Mast Roofing launched the new name for last year’s program, the company was hoping for a good response — and got it.

More than 70 nominations were received for the

2022 program. Mast said that number was the most nominations ever received — about double what was received in previous years.

She added that so far, more than 20 nominations have come in for this year’s program.

While the intention last year was to choose one winner, Mast said the company celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and decided to mark the occasion by giving away a second roof. Both were installed on the same

very hot day last July to Donna Stierly of Barto and Ann Stanley of Boyertown. This year, one new roof will be awarded, Mast added.

“The roof installations from the past 10 years were a great success and we are very excited to be able to do it for an eleventh time this year. Our entire team enjoys coming together to encourage a local family while meeting a very practical

need,” a press release announcing the program for 2023 stated.
