‘Into the Woods’ is Steel River Playhouse season finale
The show will run through June 11
There is an old saying “Be careful what you wish for” and Steel River Playhouse investigates the possibilities, presenting “Into the Woods” opening on Friday, May 26.
Directing this closing production of the 2022— 2023 season Steel River welcomes back original Artistic Director Deborah Stimson-Snow who will direct this production of the classic with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine.
This musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales. A baker and his wife wish to have a child but can’t due to a witch’s curse so they set off on a journey to break the curse. During the journey, they encounter Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, and assorted other princes, parents, and even animals.
Along the way, the characters discover their wishes may not turn out the way they envisioned and discover
that “No One is Alone” as they are cautioned that “Children Will Listen.”
These are not fairy tales for young children but will be appreciated by children over the age of 8. The 20222023 Season Sponsor is The Scott and Susan Bentley Fund. Opening night at the theater, 245 E. High Street in Pottstown, is sponsored by Ferreri Enterprises LLC.
“Into the Woods” will run from May 26 through June 1. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on May 26, 27, and June 2, 4, 9, and 10. Matinees will be at 2 p.m. on May 28, June 10 and 11.
In addition, there will be matinees at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, to give our patrons additional options with other events planned in town for those days.
The running time for this two-act show is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes with one intermission.
