Phoenixvil­le, Methacton shut out in district play

Alex Pak pitched a complete one-hitter and struck out eight, holding down the fort for Strath Haven in a District 1-5A quarterfin­al win over Phoenixvil­le and punching his team’s ticket to a third straight district semifinal appearance. Pak also had one hit and two RBIs.

At the plate, the Panthers were led by Matt Kane, who went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Third-seeded Strath Haven will host No. 10 West Chester Rustin in the District 1-5A semifinals on Friday at 4 p.m.

Dylan Antonini pitched 5.1 innings for the Phantoms, striking out three with six hits and four walks. After winning the Pioneer Athletic Conference Championsh­ip and winning the program’s first district playoff game in 10 years, Phoenixvil­le ends its season with a record of 15-8.

Fueled by a five-run second inning and five players recording multiple hits for the Bucks, Central Bucks West defeated PAC runner-up Methacton to survive and advance in the District 1-6A second round.

The 14th seeded Bucks will head to No. 6 Coatesvill­e in the District 1-6A quarterfin­als Friday.

Sam Greer earned the win, pitching all six innings with four strikeouts while going 2-for-5 with an RBI at the plate. Alex Valdez led the Bucks at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Max McGlone (3-for-5, three RBIs), Julio Ermigiotti (2-for-4, RBI) and Quinn Illig (3-for-4, RBI) all poured on hits for Central Bucks West.

Methacton finishes its season with an overall record of 18-5.

Highlights: Already up 3-0, Julia Shearer hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, sparking a five-run frame that pulled top-ranked North Penn away early in a five-inning District 1-6A second round game Wednesday. The Knights will host No. 8 Ridley, an 8-4 winner over No. 9 Pennsbury on Friday in the District 1-6A quarterfin­als at 4 p.m.

Shearer threw four no-hit innings and Lexi Nyce worked an inning of relief as North Penn held Methacton to a single hit by Jillian McTamney.

Casey Sokol was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Shearer and Brie Wilmot were each 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Methacton finishes its season 13-9 overall.*
