NEW LEADERSHIP
Maxwell will chair three county boards
Chester County Commissioner Josh Maxwell, a longtime hockey fan, scored a hat trick on Tuesday.
Maxwell, re-elected to his second term as commissioner in November, was chosen by his colleagues to chair the Board of Commissioners, the county Board of Elections, and the county Prison Board — the three top groups governing positions of power in the
county.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity over the next few years to work alongside terrific county employees in the interest of improving the lives of our entire community,” Maxwell wrote in an email. “We get four years to do everything we can to make their lives better. It’s a great mission and I’m excited for this journey.
“There isn’t anything I’d rather be doing,” he wrote.
The vote to name Maxwell as chairman of the commissioners
was not unanimous, however, with new Commissioner Eric Roe, a Republican, voting against his appointment, nominating last year’s chairwoman, Commissioner Marian Moskowitz, instead. Moskowitz, Maxwell’s Democratic colleague on the board, was voted as vice chairwoman after supporting Maxwell.
In electing Maxwell to head the Prison Board, the seven members split again, with Roe nominating new District Attorney Christopher deBarrena-Sarobe
for the head position over Maxwell. DeBarrena-Sarobe, however, joined the other members — Maxwell, Moskowitz, President Judge John Hall, Sheriff Kevin Dykes, and Controller Margaret Reif — in voting for Maxwell.
Roe made it three-for-three when he opposed Maxwell’s appointment as chairman of the Board of Elections. He again nominated Moskowitz, who was eventually elected vice chairwoman, unanimously.
