County BZA approves kennel, communications tower and other requests
PLYMOUTH – From a dog kennel for Boxers and Golden-doodles to a 250-foot communications tower, the Marshall County Board of Zoning appeals approved several requests when it met earlier this month.
Ty adley, Marshall County plan director, said the BZA approved at its aug. 13 meeting:
– a request from andrew and Carolyn Vanherk, 10702 S.R. 17, Plymouth, to place a 250-foot “telecommunications facility, including fence, ground equipment and tower” on their property, according to the application. according to county zoning ordinance, all communications towers require a
special exception. The Vanherk’s property is zoned residential and there are no towers within two miles of the proposed tower.
– a request from David J. Slabaugh, 430 5B Road, Bremen, for a special exception to have a kennel to house 45 mature Boxers and Goldendoodles, as well as puppies, on the property. Slabaugh expects to turn two litters of puppies each year, according to the application. The puppies will be kept on the property until they are eight weeks old.
– a request from Jim and Jennifer Walker, 6430 7th Road, Plymouth, for a confined-animal feeding operation at 7402 7th Road, Plymouth. The Walkers’ request was for a variance of development standards from the 1,320 setback requirement to place a hog barn on the property.
– a request from Thomas and Karen Moore, 18208 7th Road, Plymouth for a special use to allow a home-based business “of woodworking and metal-working equipment” to make products in a building on their property, according to the application.
– a request from David and Janice Wilma, 16789 12th Road, Plymouth, for a variance of development standards to build a 20-foot-by-60-foot pole building on their property. The variance was sought because the pole barn will be five feet from the property line instead of the required 10 feet or 10 percent.
