Plymouth gets solid round at Stonehenge

-

WARSAW — In a sectional preview Plymouth’s girls golf team competed in the Warsaw Invitational at Stonehenge on Saturday.

Sophomore Annastasia Hutchings got hot on the front nine firing her best effort to date turning a 42. A great drive on the difficult second hole led to an up and down confidence-building par; easily one the hardest holes on the course. Anna’s closing hole — the par 5 #9 — punctuated her turn score with a fairway off the tee, a green in regulation, and a one-putt birdie.

Turning to the back Anna parred her opening two holes before the slopes of the greens and some loose putts leaked what was on pace to be a special round.

“Anna’s 94 tied her career-best from two weeks ago,” said Plymouth coach Ben Waymouth. “It provided some solid confidence for her going forward.”

Freshmen Claire Mcdonald also tied her career-best with a 119.

Claire was consistent on both nines today improving a single shot on the back nine,” said Waymouth. “She’s hitting the ball better off the tee and gaining confidence each time out.”

Freshmen Emma Roczyki led the team with 7 fairways carding a 119.

Rounding out the scoring were Olivia Horvath 101 and Elaina Mcdonald 123.

Horvath led the team with six greens.

Olivia Waymouth, one of our hotter players of late, was taking SATS.

“I was proud of the young group of three freshmen who tackled another difficult course without fear,” said Waymouth. “For all three, this was their first trip to Stonehenge. Anna and Olivia provided good stability at the top of the lineup. Today’s 433 is a stepping stone to the future.

NLC conference round-robin play begins next week for Plymouth. Weekday long drives to Northridge (Tuesday) and Goshen (Thursday) get things rolling.
