Powell named 2nd runner-up at state scholarshi­p pageant

On Saturday, Jan. 4, in Indianapol­is at the Indiana State Festival Associatio­n Convention’s 2020 Scholarshi­p Pageant, 27 lovely ladies gave it their all to be crowned 2020 Miss ISFA Queen.

Ladies from all over the State of Indiana representi­ng 27 Festivals learned an opening dance number in the morning and went through a 7 minute interview in the afternoon. During the evening they performed their dance number, showed off their “spirit” wear, floated across the stage in beautiful evening formals each hoping to win the crown.

When the top 10 contestant­s were named our 2019 Miss Blueberry Abigail Powell was among the group. As the Ladies stood on stage, each one chose a question out of a bowl, read it and then answered the question after it was read to the judges and audience.

After a short intermissi­on, all of the 27 contestant­s were back on stage for the crowning. Two awards were given before the crown was placed on the Queen head. The Directors Award was given to the Lady they felt was the more helpful and friendly to all the contestant­s. Miss Alexis Nicole Martin of the Darlington Fish Fry Festival was the winner. Haley Anne Sieg, Monroe County Fall Foliage Festival was awarded the Best Essay that described her festival.

Making up the Queen’s Court was 4th Runnerup, Lydia Danae Shepherd, Jasper Strassenfe­st. The 3rd Runner-up was Samantha Allison Markham, Nappanee Apple Festival. Miss Blueberry, Abigail Powell, was the 2nd Runner-up, making her Blueberry crowd very proud! Kayla N. Scranton, Swiss Wine Festival was the 1st Runner-up and if for any reason the Queen would not be able to full fill her reign,

Kayla would receive the crown.

Miss Labor Day Associatio­n, Kendall Jayne Johnson was crowned the 2020 ISFA Queen and will travel around the State visiting as many festivals as possible. Last year’s Queen, Madison Millick, Linton Freedom Festival traveled to 28 festivals covering 4873 miles. One of the festivals she visited was the Marshall County Blueberry Festival. She was hosted by 2019 Miss Blueberry, Abigail Powell on Sunday in park, enjoying all the blueberry treats and the Fireworks. Monday she rode the parade before heading home to attend college on Tuesday. The 2020 Miss ISFA Queen, Kendall Johnson will have her job cut out for her, if she plans on traveling just one more mile and attending one more festival.
