PLYMOUTH — Sylvia King, of Sylvia’s Temptations, was pleased with the proceeds raised from the third annual Scott’s Ride, a ride she organizes every year in memory of her brother who served time in the United States army.

after expenses, the benefit raised $3,023.91 for the Combat Veterans of Michiana 14-3. King said that the group offers help to veterans all year with needs that may arise. The group also holds events to raise money for Plymouth and Knox area veterans, but this year’s events were cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

a total of 192 people attended the event; 93 bikes participated in the ride.

King said, “I made sure everything was COVID-19 safe by having sinks and sanitizer and people social distanced them selves.”

The ride which was 60 miles nonstop through Starke and Marshall County. Riders were escorted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the Knox Police Department and the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.

King thanked all the sponsors and those who helped make the event a success. “I am so proud to be able to pay it forward. Thank you to all my military family and veterans. Thank you for your service and all you do so that my family and I can live the life that we choose.”

King’s own grandson Oliver who is five years old donated $200 he raised from selling baked goods.

King has gotten positive feedback about the fundraiser. “I was told to keep doing this event because our veterans don’t get the help they need. That was the whole reason I started this event. Our veterans do get taken for granted. I just want to do my part and pay it forward. At the end of the day. I always hope it was enough.”
