E-learning with PPL

- BY NATHAN MAYER

Digital Learning continues this fall with Cindy on the PPL Youtube channel!

Via the Plymouth Public Library Youtube channel (to access - visit Myplymouthlibrary. org then click the Youtube link at the top left of the page), join Cindy online on consecutive Wednesdays this Oct. 7-14.

On Oct.7, Cindy Clough will instruct viewers on what Hoopla has to offer, along with how to use it if you are new to accessing e-materials. Hoopla is a free digital service that comes as a perk to having a library card, and allows you 15 checkouts per month spanning every form of entertainment possible.

“Hoopla is accessible via their app, or by visiting www.hoopladigital.com on your personal computer ,” said Clough. “Hoopla offers e-books, e-audiobooks, graphic novels, full music albums, and thousands of movies, with each option spanning all ages. You can download items to your computer or smart device to take with you wherever you go, allowing you to read/watch/listen offline. Another great thing about Hoopla is that you never need to place a hold on an item in order to get it: everything is always available!”

On Oct. 14, Cindy will instruct viewers on what Gale Courses and databases from EBSCO Host have to offer. “Gale Courses offer a wide range of interactive, instructor-led classes that you take online,” said Clough. “New courses begin every month. Once you create an account and are signed in, you can search for courses you are interested in, e.g. Sign Language. Once you click “Enroll now,” it will provide start dates for you to set according to your schedule. Most courses last six weeks, with two classes a week, for a total of twelve classes.”

“EBSCO databases offer academic searches, communication and psychology information, and other rich sources you will be able to use for school or life learning. We will explore how to use the databases for your own research and learning purposes,” said Clough.

Each instructional video will be posted to the PPL Youtube page at 5:30 p.m. in October.

Ask staff at the Adult Services Desk, or call the library at 574-936-2324, for more information regarding the digital services PPL offers patrons.

See you at the library!
