Lions on the road again
BREMEN - A good win a week ago over Glenn has the Bremen Lions ready to put a streak together to gain momentum headed for the stretch run.
“It’s a good win for us,” said Bremen head coach Jordan Leeper. “Glenn poses a lot of problems. They do some really good things and I thought our kids played tremendous, especially on the defensive side of the ball.”
The Lions held a dangerous Glenn offensive attack to just eight points in a struggle that they finally gained control of in the final quarter.
“( Defensive coach) Andrews is doing a great job,” said Leeper. “He’s putting together a good plan, the kids are believing in what he’s teaching them and telling them to do
and they are playing good hard-nosed, fast defense. It’s fun to watch.
“When the offense is able to start clicking like we did in the second half and start getting chunks of yardage like we did, things are looking good. When the defense is only giving up 140 yards on a night, that’s a great night for us.”
The stretch run starts with a long bus ride on Friday to Prairie Heights in Lagrange.
“They’ve been beaten by some pretty good football teams,” said Leeper. “The challenge is that they don’t have a lot of formations, but they have a lot of plays. They have one basic formation and they run everything out of that. There’s not a whole lot of scheming that we need to do. We just need to play good hard-nosed defense against what they do. Defensively, they’ve taken some lumps and hopefully our line will be able to control the line of scrimmage and we’ll be able to move the ball on them. We have to control the line of scrimmage and execute the game plan.”
