H. Joseph Rex

H. Joseph “Joe” Rex, 85 of Argos, Indiana passed away on Monday Jan. 11, at 8:10 a.m. at his residence where he had been in declining health for the past two years.

On June 28, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio he was born to Joseph S. Rex and Mary Louise (Warwick) Rex. Having grown up in Toledo, Ohio Joe spent most of his life in the Argos community.

In November of 1955 he married Mary Lou Elliott and together the shared the next 45 years before Mary Lou passed away on May 8, 2000. On May 13, 2019 in Vero Beach, Fla. he married Sally Walmer.

Joe was a Truck Driver and Owned Rex Transporta­tion, Argos for 22 years from 1990 to 2012. He also owned Rex’s Bar in Argos from 1970 to 1980.

Joe proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Joe served the Argos Fire Department for over 10 years; Argos Town Board for eight years; and was the Argos Police Commission­er. He also was a member of the Argos American Legion and served as Post Commander of the James Lowell Corey, American Legion Post #68. Joe was a member of the V.F.W. Rochester. He had attended Argos United Methodist Church.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sally of Argos; daughters, Kim Sellers and husband Loren of Bourbon; son, Dale Rex Sr. and wife Lori of Argos; daughter-in-law, Tammy Rex of Argos; grandchild­ren, Michael Rex; Ashley Salzer and fiancé Andrew Baca; Derek Rex and wife Kristy; Dale Rex Jr. and wife Mellissa; Aundrea Steenblock and husband Nate; and Austin Seller and wife Katie; nine great grandchild­ren; step children, William Mellen Jr and wife Rhonda of Mishawaka; James Mellen and wife Erica of Winter Garden, Fla.; Susanne Kronwitter and husband Andrew of Lowton, Mich.; several step grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou Rex; son, John Joe Rex; step brother, Tommy Thomas; grandsons Deven Rex and Matthew Rex; and step grandson, Andy Ginther.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church, 570 N. Michigan St., Argos.

Funeral Services will follow at 12 p.m. at the church with Rev. Max Milton of the Argos United Methodist Church, Argos. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos, with the United States Army and Argos American Legion conducting Military Honors.
