Sectional practice??

-

Saturday night’s Argos-triton game had the intensity of a sectional game - and may have been a preview of the sectional final for Sectional 50 in two weeks. Pictured here Triton’s Tyson Yates (left) and Bruce Johnson try to take the ball from the hands of Argos’ Ted Redinger.

Two free throws from Dylan Kindig made it 40-32, but a driving layup by Cole Shively followed by a 3 from Yates cut the gap to just three with 3:27 remaining.

“We cut the lead and needed to get a stop at that point,” said Triton head coach Jason Groves. “That’s when you’ve got to buckle down and do whatever it takes - take a charge or get a stop in that situation. I’m proud of our kids for fighting back and scrapping and getting us back into a position where we can tie up the game, possibly win it, but we’ve got to get a stop in that situation.”

Instead, Kindig was fouled on a drive and completed a three-point play to push the lead back to six and from there, Triton would muster only two free throws the rest of the game. Meanwhile, argos connected on 6-of-7 foul shots and a Ted Redinger layup in the final seconds provided the final margin.

“When they get a lead

they are hard to play against,” Groves said of the Dragons. “They were taking care of the ball, getting shots inside and executing. We had to fight to get back, but just couldn’t get over the hump.”

Morris led Argos in scoring with 14. Kindig (5-5 FTS) added 13 points to go with seven rebounds. Redinger scored eight, dished four assists and had two steals. Michael Richard also had eight tallies. Argos shot 64 percent from the field (18-for-28) and outrebounded Triton, 23-11.

“We made a few more shots, a few more plays,” concluded Mosson. “It was a team win. We got contributions from eight guys. All of them gave us good minutes. That’s what we needed after the overtime win over North Judson.”

John Gardner led Triton in scoring with 10 points, followed by Yates with nine. Bruce Johnson had

four steals and Keegan Westafer had three blocked shots. The Trojans shot just 21 percent from beyond the arc (3-of-14).

Argos’ next game is at West Central Tuesday while Triton hosts Bremen the same night.
