April is National Poetry month

- Written by Sue Mitchell

I’d Go Through It All Over Again

They put a crown of thorns upon my head

They wrapped me in a royal robe and said,

“come one, come all, oh come and see, King of Jews He claims to be.”

They spat upon my face, they plucked my beard,

They flogged me with their reeds, they mocked and jeered

And while they nailed me to that tree,

The crowd all cheered so ruthlessly.

but I’d Go Through It All Over Again.

And as I gladly hung there on the cross,

I knew that I alone must suffer loss. I came to die for sinners such as those

Who sat there gambling for my clothes.

I came not to condemn but sacrifice,

And shed my precious blood to pay the price.

I died upon that rugged cross, so sinners such as you would not be lost.

And I’d Go Through It All Over Again.

And when my final hour had come and passed,

They laid me in the tomb to rest at last.

They rolled a stone before the door, To seal the tomb forever more. but PRAISE GOD on that third and glorious day,

I conquered death and angels rolled that stone away. Ascended to my home above, Now seated by my Father, God of Love.

Yes, I’d Go Through It All Over Again,

Even if I knew not one of you, Would welcome me with open arms,

And tell me that you love me too. Yes, I’d suffer and bleed and die, For tis in God’s perfect will, that I, Should suffer upon that cross, that none would be lost.
