Lois M. Krathwohl, age 85 of Plymouth, passed away Saturday, April 17, at We Belong Senior Home of Plymouth.

She was born the daughter of Clyde F. and Helen (Long) Hartung at Argos on April 20, 1935.

Lois has been a life-long resident. She was noted for her ownership of her upholstery business where she worked for many people over the years.

On Jan. 9, 1954, she married the love of her life Norris A. Krathwohl, he preceded her in death June 14, 2013. Those left with wonderful memories are her children: Pamela Chizum of Plymouth, Kim (Pete) Paul of Argos, Jay “J.D.” (Alicia) Krathwohl of Mcallen, Texas, Steven (Mary) Krathwohl of Plymouth and Mark (Barbara) Krathwohl of Plymouth. She was further blessed with 20 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 10 great-greatgrandchildren and her sister-in-law Jane Hartung. Lois maintained close relationships with several nieces & nephews & her cousins.special attention to neighbor’s Ozzie & Rosella Osbourne for friendship & safety monitoring. Great appreciation to Mary Vanblaricom for her neighborly companionship & caregiving during some rough times the last couple years.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband grandson Eric Barden, sister Joyce Dixon and brother Jess Hartung.

Lois is remembered by her strong will and proud nature. In her younger years she would set forth to choose a project and saw it through. In her early married years Norris and Lois developed their family. Born unto them were five children in six years. As a full time mother, Lois also had a part time job as a Studio Girl. She also developed skills to remodel their chosen home with her husband on every project that continued for the next five decades. That alone is to be proud of.

Lois always found creative ways to contribute and provide for her family. There were long hot summers with her five children working with the crop production of pickles. The field on the 20 acre farm was a project where everybody weeded, picked and sorted the produce, then sold and delivered the pickles to a local factory. Some years it was a strawberry patch. An additional resource by raising piglets, calves, chickens and turkey’s kept Lois busy.

Lois enjoyed some factory production doing sewing in Rochester, and some plastics production in Plymouth. She landed in a long term position as a Shipping Department Supervisor. Later she enjoyed some department store associate work at Grant’s. Lois’s favorite passion was a small business owner. She opened Krathwohl’s Upholstery Shop which was built step by step by the team of her husband & herself in 1983. The shop added additional sections including a furniture strip department, and then a small craft supply department. Her business was quite profitable as a couple and continued their livelihood for the next 15 years. In what seemed the blink of an eye, an unfortunate electrical fire set their business into a blazing fire on March 29, 1998. The couple was devastated and heartsick. The following year began Retirement for Lois as the couple moved from the country to Randolph Drive in town. Lois calmed her life with enjoying some hobbies and traveling many States for adventure. Lois was a well accomplished strong and proud woman, wife, mother and grandmother.
