Commissioners approve requests from Sheriff Hassel
In his March report,
Marshall County
Sheriff Matt Hassel stated that the average inmate population was 173.
“We’re still doing good there,” he said.
On Monday, the commissioners approved an out-ofstate training request from Sheriff Hassel.
The date for the training is Aug. 13 to Aug. 18 and will take place in San Antonio, Texas. The training is for the American Public-safety Communications Officers (APCO).
“Matt Pitney is the President of the Indiana APCO and with that he’s expected to attend and represent the State of Indiana at the national conference,” said Hassel.
The commissioners then approved a request to apply for the 2022 CHIRP Grant. The sheriff explained that the CHIRP grant is a combination of Operation Pull Over and the DUI Taskforce. Those two have combined to become the Comprehensive Highway Injury Reduction Program (CHIRP). Even though it is managed by Troy Ulch from the Bremen Police Department, it is a Marshall County grant.
“It’s Marshall County’s grant that we apply for. And it does effect, I believe, every agency is involved in this,” said Hassel.
They then approved
another request to apply for the Marine Patrol Assistance Grant. The sheriff apologized to the commissioners since his department has already been approved for the grant. He stated that he had forgotten to seek approval to apply for it.
“It’s for the DNR Marine Patrol Assistance grant for Lake Maxinkuckee for the summer,” the sheriff said adding that the grant was in the amount of $10,000.
