County-wide EMS service?
County Commissioners announce May 13 meeting to discuss
During Monday’s meeting of the Marshall County Commissioners, it was brought up that there was recently an FOP Communication meeting with various representatives from town, city, and county government. One of the topics of discussion was the fact that the Town of Argos, Walnut and Green Townships recently voted to form the Argos Fire Territory.
“Which led into some other discussion,” said Commissioner Kevin Overmyer. “A lot of our EMS services in this county are suffering a little bit with person
nel. A lot of them, it’s just getting expensive to run these EMS services.”
Overmyer stated that there will be a meeting on Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m. to discuss the idea of a county-wide EMS service.
“This is just preliminary. We’re not running out doing this, but we need to talk with these towns and see what we can do to help them,” Overmyer said. “I think we’re just getting to that point where we may have to start to consider something along this basis.”
The meeting will be held in the Commissioner ’s room in the County Building located at 112 West Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel informed the commissioners that town council members from each town and city have been invited. Those also invited included: township board members, the Mayor of Plymouth, and every EMS director.
“It’s just going to be a discussion,” Hassel reiterated. “It’s worth exploring to see if we could all put our heads together and make something work more efficiently and effectively. That’s the idea.”
