CCSC and Bowen Center offer parenting classes
Parenting workshops facilitated by the Bowen Center were held in March and will take place again in May. The Culver Parent Teachers Organization (PTO) sponsored the opportunity for families to attend the workshop that follows strategies illustrated in “How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk” by adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.
Erika James said, “The following skills are covered through the class: helping children deal with feelings, engaging cooperating, alternatives to punishment, encouraging autonomy, praise and encouragement, and freeing children from playing roles.”
James said that the Bowen Center is also providing a skills coach to work with students. “Together with adult volunteers in the school, we are able to provide childcare and resources for families.”
The Culver Lions Club has sponsored the dinner for families who attend. James said, “It has been a tremendous effort by different organizations in our community, we are so thankful to have these resources for our students.”
