Ancilla College Veterinary Nursing awarded AVMA Accreditation

-

PLYMOUTH — Ancilla College is proud to announce the accreditation of the Ancilla Veterinary Nursing program effective Feb. 18, by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The program on the campus in Plymouth is directed by Marianne Dosmann, RVT MS. This makes just the third accredited program in the state of Indiana.

After two years of work and planning, the Veterinary Nursing program underwent a rigorous review in February. During the virtual visit, a team of AVMA reviewers evaluated compliance with veterinary nursing standards spanning several areas including curriculum, environment of care, accepted standards of quality, and animal handling and care.

The program works with two advisory councils made up of local and regional professionals, the Programmatic Committee and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. “This accreditation would not have been possible without the support of faculty, staff, students and administration of Ancilla College and our advisory committees.” Said Director Dosmann.

Ancilla’s program moved into a state-of-the-art teaching facility in January where students have been able to study surgical procedures, radiology, and practice the requirements to complete their academic programs. Students will sit for the license exam, the VTNE in the fall to become registered veterinary nurses. “After two years of hard work, we are proud of this achievement and excited for our five graduating students this year who will take their VTNE test this fall to become registered veterinary nurses.“There are eight continuing students returning in the fall, and applications are currently open for the next cohort of students.
