Lancer bats erupt in win

-

LAKEVILLE — The varsity softball team played host to Elkhart Christian Academy in a non-conference game Thursday.

Laville used 18 hits en route to a Strikeout Cancer game victory over the Eagles by a final of 19-5.

Lancer Softball has held a Strikeout Cancer game for 10 years and continues to raise money for various organizations and individuals to help with expenses. This year, money raised will help defray some costs for Lori Kelly. Lori’s daughter, Hannah, is a player on the Laville Softball Team.

Allison Medors got things started for Laville, smacking a solo home run over the fence on a 1-0 pitch in the bottom of the first inning. Medors’ shot led 11 consecutive batters that reached base either by hit, walk, or in Medors second at-bat of the first inning, an intentional walk. Laville would score eight runs and send 14 batters to the plate.

The Lancers would put the game away in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs, including five with two out to take a commanding 15-3 lead.

Kylie Gorka led the offense, finishing 4-for-4 with five RBI. Ayva Barger, Quincy Blodgett, Karisma Lewis, and Lily Smith added two hits each for Laville.

Chloe Herbster tossed a three-hit complete game, striking out eight to earn her first varsity ‘W’ in the circle. Herbster also cracked an RBI double to help her cause.

Laville jumps back into Hoosier North Athletic Conference action Friday at Culver Community. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at CCHS.
