LAKEVILLE — Allison Medors has been selected as the 2021 Lapaz Lions/laville High School Female Athlete of the Year.

Medors, a three-sport athlete, graduated in the top five in the Class of 2021 and plans to continue her academic and athletic career at Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall. Medors will be majoring in pre-med and continue to play softball for the Wildcats.

When asked what it was like to put on the Lancer Uniform during her prep career, she replied, “Sports are a really big deal to not only the school but also the community. It always meant so much to see other students or members of our community come out to watch the games. Every time I put on one of my Lancer uniforms, I always wanted to do everything I could to make the school proud. I also remembered that there could always be future Lancer athletes in the stands and I always want to do my part to encourage them to pursue sports and reach their goals.”

Medors admitted that while she loved all the sports she played, “. . . softball has always been my favorite. I have played it my whole life and it’s always been really special to me.”

While playing three sports, Medors also kept herself busy by being involved in National Honor Society, DECA, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Students, Pep Club, Yearbook, Best Buddies, Champions together, Unified Basketball, and she was the Junior and Senior Class Representatives.

Medors earned 10 varsity letters while playing volleyball, basketball, and softball.

She marked a few moments in time as being favorite memories.

Going to Ferris State University for volleyball camp her junior year was her favorite fall memory. According to Medors, it was a great opportunity for the team to grow together as teammates and they learned so much. She said that it was such a fun camp and she was so glad she got the opportunity to go.

During the winter season, her favorite basketball memory was this past year ’s senior night game. She emphasized how much fun that particular game was and that it was really exciting and everyone really got into it. Medors said that it was also super awesome to see how the team put together such a great night for the seniors.

The 2021 Laville Queen of Diamonds Tournament was her favorite spring memory. She said that everyone had a lot of fun in that tournament and felt that those games were some of the best the team played all season. It was a great day to spend playing with her teammates and hanging out with them in between games.

Medors feels very honored to have been selected second-team all-state her sophomore year, and first-team all-state her senior year in softball.

“It was definitely a huge honor to be selected for all-state honors and to be selected as an all-star,” explained

Medors, who was selected to play in the 30th Annual ICGSA North-south Softball All-star game. “I remember finding out about the selections for each of these awards and it just put the biggest smile on my face. It had always been a goal of mine to be named all-state and it was so amazing to get that honor. I also loved having the opportunity to bring some attention to our school’s softball program.”

When asked what the best advice she has been given, Medors said, “It’s really simple, but the best advice I have been given is to relax and just play my game. Nobody plays well when they are super tense, so being reminded to just relax when I play helped me immensely. This advice helped me remember to not overthink everything when I play and do what I know how to do on the field or the court.”

And when it comes to what motivates Medors or if she has any pregame rituals, she said, “I always listen to some music to get myself ready for the game. Also, any pre-game warmup is when I really start to focus in and get really ready for the game. The only “ritual” I have is to listen to music that pumps me up on the way to the game.”

Medors also feels like her participation in Laville Athletics has prepared her for what is ahead in life.

“Laville Athletics has helped a lot to prepare me for my future,” explained Medors. “Not only my future in sports but also a future in the professional world. I am so grateful for all the lessons and skills I have learned in my time as a part of Laville athletics.”

Earning 10 varsity letters and receiving the 2021 Lapaz Lions Club Athlete of the Year are quite an accomplishment and Medors is very thankful for her career as a Lancer.

“I felt very honored to have been chosen for this award,” concluded Medors of the selection. “There are so many amazing female athletes in my year, so to be picked out of all of them was such a privilege. I am so thankful to have been chosen for the female athlete of the year award.”
