Marshall County remains Orange

For the third week in a row, Marshall County is Orange. Every Wednesday, the Indiana State Department of Health updates Hoosiers regarding each county’s color coded designation.

There are four colors ranging from Red, Orange, Yellow, and Blue. Red is the highest and Blue is lowest.

Compared to the prior week, there are 21 counties in Red (an increase of eight), 68 counties in Orange (a decrease of seven), three counties in Yellow (a decrease of 1), and zero counties in Blue (no change).

Blue means that a county has a minimal community spread, Yellow is for moderate, Orange is moderate-to-high, and Red means that the county is experiencing high community spread.

The County Metric System was put into place by Governor Eric J. Holcomb in December 2020 when he signed Executive Order 20-50 that implemented tighter restrictions for counties that have higher lev

els of COVID-19. That executive order limited social gatherings based on what color a county was designated.

On March 31, that limitation was rescinded in Executive Order 21-09. However, the IDH still updates the color-coded metric system for counties to serve as guidance for counties.

As of Wednesday, the IDH reported an additional 2,952 positive cases of COVID-19. From Aug. 21 to Sept. 7 there were 86 new deaths reported. A total of 12,627,901 tests administered from Feb. 26, 2020 to Sept. 7, 2021 were reported. So far, throughout this pandemic Indiana has reported 889,362 total positive cases and 14,258 total deaths.

Of those numbers, Marshall County is reporting 10 new positive cases.

The positivity rate for the range of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1 is 10.5 percent. To date, there have been 137,562 total tests administered, 6, 968 total positive cases, and 123 total deaths.
