ARGOS – Elevate argos will host a 9/11 Remembrance Walk and Ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 11.

The event will start at 5:30 p.m. with a walk from argos Community School to Memorial Park. Participants are asked to walk together while reflecting on the events of 9/11. The length of the walk is approximately the same number of steps a firefighter would have taken going up the stairs in one of the twin towers.

“9/11 will forever be etched in the hearts of americans” states Jon Vanderweele, a key organizer of Elevate argos. “The purpose of our event is to remember the 343 Firefighters, 60 Law Enforcement Officers, and eight emergency medical service members that made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Immediately following the walk, everyone is invited to attend a remembrance ceremony at Memorial Park starting at 6 p.m. There will be speakers, students of the argos Jr. & Sr. Choir will sing,

and students of the high school will take part in the presentation.

Vanderweele adds “we have an amazing group of firefighters, police and emergency personnel in Argos. They are constantly going above and beyond to provide not only care for our community, but civic events as well. This 9/11 ceremony is the least we can do to pause in our busy lives and honor their fallen brothers and sisters.”

Attendees unable to walk can meet directly at Memorial Park. There will not be a shuttle service from Memorial Park back to the school. The ceremony will end around 6:45 p.m.

Those attending the event are encouraged to grab flag stickers from one of the organizers and use that to receive a 10% discount off dinner from participating downtown Argos restaurants.
