LV gets come-from-behind win over Lady Eagles
Last-second Sherk FT wins it
LAKEVILLE - Five games into the 2021-22 season and the Laville High School girls basketball team already has more wins than it did in each of the two previous years after defeating Culver Girls Academy, 28-27, Saturday afternoon.
Down five at halftime, the Lady Lancers held the Lady Eagles to just four points in both the third and fourth quarters to pull out the home victory and are now 3-2 overall.
Lucy Sherk led LV in scoring with 14 points, including the team’s only three-pointer, and rebounds with seven. Heaylyn Kwiatkowski added six points, three assists and three steals. Dionna Craig and Taylor Bowen each scored eight for CGA. LV had an 11-0 edge from the free throw line.
Sherk’s free throw with 1.3 seconds left ended up being the game-winner as Bowen’s half-court heave was wide right at the buzzer.
Laville’s next game is another home game, this time with Elkhart Christian visiting Dale E. Cox Gymnasium on Tuesday. CGA if off until after Thanksgiving with its next contest Nov. 30 at Lacrosse. • LAVILLE 28, CULVER ACADEMY 27
