Gerri Lee King

-

April 22, 1960 - December 25, 2021

Gerri Lee King passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 25, 2021. Gerri was born in Bremen on April 22, 1960 and was the firstborn child of Tony King and Shirley (Schaetzle) King Batty. She graduated from Triton High School with the class of 1978, and was currently employed by Triton School Corporation.

Family was Gerri’s greatest priority. She was the guiding force for her siblings and an infectious source of laughter at every gathering. Gerri met the love of her life when her son Phillip was born. They travelled and experienced life together. They lived in many cities across the country, including San Diego, Portland, Los Angeles, and Denver. She returned to Bourbon when her first grandchild was born, and her grandchildren became the center of her life. She was the type of grandmother who not only helped build the blanket tents, but also camped inside them.

Gerri loved going on long vacations in Las Vegas and Florida with her life-long best friend, Christy Smith Weldy. She also enjoyed listening to music while working on her projects. She was very creative and found beauty in nature, which she used in her art. Her hand painted post-cards and uplifting words always seems to arrive exactly when needed.

Gerri is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Kendra King of Bourbon, and her grandchildren Anthony King, Hannah King, and Owen Vetor; her mother and step-father, Shirley and Ron Batty of Bourbon; her siblings: Jeffery (Kim) King of Warsaw, Beth King of Lafayette, Jay King of Bourbon, and stepsister, Jessica (Scott) Thomson of Chicago. Her love and sense of humor will also be remembered by her nieces: Keely King and Alysabeth Faulkner, and nephews: Blaine King, Ryan Shanyfelt, Christopher Bradfield, Kale King, Brendan King, and Darrin King.

She was preceded in death by her father and her younger sister Sandra.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bourbon Public Library (307 N. Main St., Bourbon, IN 46504).

A Celebration of Gerri’s Life will be held on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. in the Matchett Event Center (805 N. Harris St., Bourbon, IN).
