Three road games first week of 2022 for Pilgrims

- By Ron Haramia Sports Writer

For most area boys and girls high school basketball teams, this week will be the first games since school let out for Christmas break.

Below are capsule previews for those contests Tuesday and Wednesday involving local schools.

Tuesday tangles

Plymouth @ Michigan City (boys)

Plymouth (2-7) was finally rewarded for the progress it has been making by winning its holiday tournament. The Pilgrims start 2022 with a busy threegame week, all on the road, with a trip to potential sectional foe Michigan City (5-2) Tuesday. The Wolves are also coming off tourney success after winning the Laporte County Classic last week.

Laville @ Tippecanoe Valley (boys)

Laville’s (1-5) first game in 17 days has the Lancers traveling to Tippecanoe Valley (4-4). LV is adjusting to almost an entirely new

lineup, but has a win and stayed relatively close to Glenn in its last two games.

#8 Triton @ Logansport (boys)

Between the Christmas break and a game cancellation, Triton (5-1) will take the court for the first time in three weeks when the Class 1A eighth-ranked Trojans travel to Class 4A Logansport (2-7). This will be the first meeting between the schools in at least 35 years (maybe ever??). This one could be a shootout. Triton is averaging 60 ppg and the Berries have been over that mark in each of its last three games (winning just one).

#11 Argos @ Trinity (boys)

Class 1A No. 11 Argos (6-1, 1-0 HPC) puts its sixgame winning streak on the line when the Dragons travel to South Bend to take on Trinity (5-2, 0-1 HPC) in a Hoosier Plains Conference contest. The

Titans have won five of their last six. Although Argos has been on the winning side often, two of its wins were by two points and four of its six wins have been by seven points or less.

Laville @ SB Career Academy (girls)

Laville’s (7-7) seventh win of the year may have been its biggest yet, a fivepoint win over 3A Glenn in its last outing. The Lady Lancers will be the heavy favorite as they shoot for win No. 8 Tuesday in the school’s first meeting ever against South Bend Career Academy (0-12). The Lady Trailblazers are in the same sectional as LV.

Northwood @ Glenn (girls)

Glenn (8-6) will look to snap a two-game losing streak with a home game against Northwood (2-16). This is just the second meeting between these two schools in the last 35 years, the last time coming in 2009.

Central Noble @ Bremen (girls)

This could be the best game of the night. Bremen (9-5) is the hottest team in the area, winning five of its last six games. Central Noble (10-4) comes in on a four-game winning streak and defeated the Lady Lions by 15 last year. This is the first of three games this week for Bremen, all on the home court.

Elkhart Christian Academy @ #12 Argos (girls)

Argos’ (9-4, 3-0 HPC) three-game week starts with a Hoosier Plains

Conference tussle with Elkhart Christian (2-8, 1-1 HPC). ECA has been scoring only 27 ppg, while the Class 1A No. 12 Lady Dragons have been putting up about 43 points per contest. This is a varsity only contest, tipping off at 6 p.m.
