Angela Cornell joins the Pilot News Group

- STAFF REPORT

Pilot News Group is pleased to announce that angela Cornell is joining the newspaper as a staff writer.

Writing has been a hobby for Cornell since she was in early grade school. “I wrote my first story in kindergarten for a Reading Rainbow writing competition. I guess I got hooked, because I’ve had the writing bug ever since,” she says.

after graduating from Bethel College, now University, in 2013, she went into writing as a career. By early 2015, she was establishing herself as a freelance writer. after moving to Marshall County from central Illinois in 2017, she was hired as a freelance writer for The Pilot News and The Lakes Magazine.

For Cornell, writing has always been about making connections with other people. “I’ve been able to meet and develop professional friendships with some really cool people with this job, especially with the Pilot and The Lakes,” she says.

But there’s another side to this coin, and that is that the contacts she makes is not only in, but for the community. “I see my job as more than just informing the public. I get to create connections for those who read my articles. Someone reads an article about a new business in Plymouth and decides to shop there. Or there’s an article about a non-profit organization, and a reader attends an up-coming fundraiser. Or someone reads an article about a resolution that was passed at the town council meeting that he wouldn’t have known about otherwise. all of these create connective

links in our area. In a small way, I see it as a contribution to my community to help build it up.”

After taking a respite from some of her writing responsibilities in 2021 to recover from professional burn-out, she is now ready to hit the pavement again. “I’m excited to return to the journalism scene, especially since I get to reconnect with some of the people that I used to work with,” she says.

In her spare time, Cornell enjoys needle arts like knitting and crocheting and hanging out with family and friends. She loves the outdoors and is looking forward to using her state park pass as often as possible this year.
