During the final 2021 meeting of the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety (BWPS), bids for stone and sand products for the 2022 year were opened. Bids for fuel were also opened.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt informed the board that three bids were received for the sand and stone. The first was from Stockberger Trucking, from Plymouth, with a bid:

• 4,000 tons more or less, #53 gravel commercial, at $12 per ton.

• 3,500 tons more or less of ice sand at $10.75 per ton.

• 2,500 tons more or less of fill dirt at $8.50 per ton.

• 2,500 tons more or less of fill sand at $9.50 per ton.

• 5,000 tons more or less of crushed limestone, #53 limestone, at $21.75 per ton and #73 limestone at $22 per ton.

The second was from Rieth Riley, from South Bend, with a bid:

• 4,000 tons more or less of crushed aggregate at $9.50 per ton.

• 3,500 tons more or less of ice sand at $6 per ton.

• 2,500 tons more or less of fill sand at $6 per ton.

The bid also included that the material would have to be picked up at their location.

The third was from Irving Materials (IMI) Plymouth Plant with a bid:

• 3,500 tons more or less of ice sand at $8.85 per ton.

• 2,500 tons more or less of fill sand at $8 per ton.

• 5,000 tons more or less of crushed limestone, #53 limestone and #73 limestone, at $19.35 per ton.

The bid also included that the material would have to be picked up at their location.

Marquardt asked that the bids be taken under advisement. “I know in the past we awarded it all because they all have different material, but I’d like to take a look at that since we got three and a new one we’re not used to,” said Marquardt.

The board approved that request.

Fuel bids were opened. The only bid was from Ceres Solutions, of Wabash.

• $2.948 per gallon for diesel

• $2.769 for 87E10 plus

Marquardt sought permission to begin talking with Ceres Solutions in order to lock the price due to the fluctuating price.

The board approved that request. Marquardt stated that he would report back on what the fixed price would be at the next meeting.

Fire Chief Steve Holm informed the board that Rod Miller will be moving into the fire inspector position. Due to that, he would like to advertise for a fire fighter/ EMT to fill Miller’s prior position. The board approved that request.

The board approved a resolution that declared some EMS bills uncollectible.

“These bills are from 2013. The overall collection rate is 78 percent. Eligible bills have been turned over to the city’s collection agency,” stated Clerk-treasurer Jeanine Xaver.

She went on to say that almost $11,000 in uncollectible bills are from interlocal agreements with other ambulance services.
