Betty J. Guyse, age 92 of Plymouth, went to her heavenly home on Dec. 31, 2021, as she had come to know Christ as her personal savior.

Betty was born on July 14, 1929 to Wallace John and Mary Elizabeth (Morris) Palmer in Plymouth, IN. She was a lifelong resident of Plymouth, IN and grew up pumping gas at her father’s gas station on the corner of State Roads 8 and 17. She married Burdette “Babe” M. Guyse on Dec. 25, 1947 in Burr Oak, IN and he preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2013. She was a homemaker, cleaned Van Gilder Funeral Home and other homes in Plymouth. She would work for Felke Florist during the holidays as well as waitressing at the Culver Inn in Culver Academy. Betty was a gracious host who loved to serve others and always enjoyed making people happy. She never met a stranger and was called “Mom” by everyone. She enjoyed many activities, including bingo, aptly being named the “Queen of Bingo” at the nursing home. She loved baking, cooking, camping, fishing, gardening, sledding, trick or treating and traveling with the family. She was a huge fan of Notre Dame football and basketball, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bulls, and she loved animals. She was a 50-year member of the Moose Lodge, where she would spend Friday nights dancing and doing the Polka with her son, Paul. She and her husband vacationed in Florida, until he became ill and then she cared for him as his illness progressed. Out of all of these things, she loved her family and her grandchildren the most.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters: Jacqueline K. (Thomas) Read of Plymouth, IN; Shirley A. (Dan) Whitmire of Plymouth, IN; her son: Paul A. Guyse (Scott Bailey) of Palm Springs, CA; her grandchildren: Marc (Becky) Read; Erik Read; Amanda Desonia; Brandon (Stacey) Whitmire; Brea (Ben) Montalbano; Derik (Elizabeth) Whitmire; her 11 grandchildren; her sister, Viola Francis Palm of Naples, FL; and her brother, Jerry Palmer of Plymouth, IN.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her son, Thomas Guyse; her sisters, Dollie Bair and Violet Mae Grace; her brothers, Richard Palmer; Robert Palmer; and Wallace John Palmer, Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marshall County Humane Society (11165 13th Rd., Plymouth, IN 46563) or Crossroads Church (1650 Oak Rd., Plymouth, IN 46563)
