Carpenter,

-

recently he was the varsity assistant under Gerard for three years (2017-19) and before that the JV coach for two seasons (20142015) and a volunteer assistant for one (‘16) under Hundt.

Carpenter has also coached the 10U travel team and was the president of the 13-15 league at Bremen for two years. Besides baseball, he also was the varsity assistant boys basketball coach at BHS from 2015-19.

“Everything has been a whirlwind, but in a great way,” said Carpenter, who lives just a long fly ball away from the baseball field with his wife and two kids. “I was hired late in the year (December) so trying to get things rolling right before Christmas was tough, but I couldn’t have asked for a better response from our guys. They have worked hard from the first winter workout until now and they are seeing success on the field because of it. We are 3-0 heading into a big week and are learning and improving everyday - myself included.”

Carpenter’s day job is at Forest River working as the Purchasing Manager for the Diesel Motorhome Division, but after his time there it’s off to his other favorite task.

“The kids,” he said, of what he likes best about the coaching gig. “Being able to make an impact on a group of 25 teenagers is what brought me back into it. They have been so responsive to me and my staff. It is more than just baseball in our program and it is really an honor to get to work with

these guys every day.”

So far the Lions have wins over North Miami (4-3), Tippecanoe Valley (9-2) and South Bend Clay (5-3). Monday’s game against South Bend Riley was cancelled due to the weather, but Bremen is scheduled to take the field today at Elkhart Christian Academy (5 pm), with big games at Glenn (Wednesday 5 pm) and at home against Culver Academy (Friday 5 pm) to wrap up the week.
