MARSHALL COUNTY — Primary Election is today. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. as of yesterday a total of 781 in-person votes were cast at the Marshall County Clerk’s Office, the Culver administration Building and the Bremen Pines.

there were 147 mail-in ballots received at the Marshall County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office by 12 p.m. noon Monday and 94 votes had been cast by way of the travel Board as of mid-afternoon.

the Marshall County Election Board discussed the

response to the complaint submitted during the last meeting regarding campaign finance reports.

Several individuals have already amended errors; others will be receiving a letter by mail offering them an opportunity to respond with corrections within five days of reciept.

A corporation exceeded the statutory limit of local campaign contributions by $2,000 over the allowed $2,000 for total contributions of $4,000. Due to continued uncertainty regarding some of the possible remedies, the Election Board will continue to explore Statutory Code on the double contribution.

Those individuals and entities who need to appear will be notified to attend a public hearing on Friday, May 13. The Primary Election will be certified during that same meeting. As always, the public is invited to attend.

Circuit Court Clerk Deborah Vandemark said it is important to be “consistent and fair with the written complaints.” She asked the Indiana Election Division for guidance moving forward with Campaign Finance Reports.

When the reports are filed they are checked for completion. Upon completion the board waits to see if there is a written complaint submitted which are addressed. That process fell within statutory guidelines.

President of the Marshall County Election Board Sean Surrisi said, “I like that process.” He said he was open to hear other viewpoints noting limited human resources. “We don’t have a lot of resources to throw at scrutinizing all of these many reports that come in all the time and if interested people want to scrutinize them and bring stuff to our attention then that seems kind of like the best way to go about it to me.” The board will continue to address complaints as they are brought to attention.

Vandemark received poll worker cancellations as late as Monday morning. All 12 vote centers will remain open and compliant with regulations.
