Bremen’s Alvarado and Yoder NIC Player, Coach of the Year

SOUTH BEND — The Northern Indiana Conference held its 2021-22 Sports Awards program and recognized the league’s best performanc­es in each respective sport.

Alvarado

Bremen’s Alex Alvarado was named Most Valuable Player in soccer’s NIC South. The Bremen senior helped lead Bremen High School to two Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) championsh­ips and two sectional titles. During his playing career, the Lions compiled a record of 41-11-4.

While Alex was breaking the school record for assists in a single season, Bremen Soccer establishe­d records for most goals in a season and the best goal differenti­al allowing only 14 scores during the 2021 campaign.

Despite missing his entire sophomore season, Alvarado graduated as the 5th highest point scorer in program history with 47 goals and 25 assists.

In addition to being named the 2021 Most Valuable Player of the NIC South, Alvarado was twice named ALL-NIC 1st team and received NIC honorable mention as a freshman. The senior captain took home Bremen’s Most Valuable Player award and was recognized with Allstate Honorable Mention by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Associatio­n.

A two-time all-district player for the Indiana High School Soccer Coaches Associatio­n, Alex finished his high school career competing in their 2021 All-star game.

Alex will be attending Bethel University in the fall where he will study sports management and play soccer for the Pilots.

Yoder

Bremen’s Mark Yoder was named the Northern Indiana Conference Soccer Coach of the Year.

During the 2021 season, Coach Yoder led the Lions to a first-place finish in the NIC South and a sectional championsh­ip that included wins over perennial powerhouse­s Mishawaka Marian and South Bend Saint Joseph.

Bremen finished their 2021 season with a state ranking of 16th and an overall record of 16-3-1. The United Soccer Coaches Associatio­n awarded the team with their Ethics and Sportsmans­hip Award and the Indiana High School Athletic Associatio­n honored the 2021 Lions with its IHSAA Sportsmans­hip Award.
