CULVER — Plymouth defeated reigning conference champions Northridge, 4-1, in a key Northern Lakes Conference tennis match Thursday. Due to the weather, the match was moved to Culver Academy’s indoor facility. The win keeps the Lady Pilgrims at the top of the NLC regular season standings with just one loss.

The 2D team of Cassidy Riddle-annie Plothow were the first match completed, once again winning in straight sets. 3S Morgan Langfeldt finished next to put Plymouth up 2-0, winning her first set handily and then battling to win a tight second set 7-5. Shortly after, 1S Aubrey Vervynckt fell in straight sets after losing a close first set.

That left the 1D team of Taylor Delp-ellie Jones and 2S Bella Kain still on court. Both split sets about the same time with the team score 2-1. Delp and Jones won their first set and held a 4-1 lead, when the Northridge duo charged back to take the second set in a tiebreaker to force a third set. Kain lost the first set, but battled back to win the second set 6-2. Delp-jones and Kain showed mental toughness in their matches and played outstanding tennis to finish off three-set wins, Delp-jones winning the deciding set 6-1 and Kain winning 6-0 to complete the team’s win.

Plymouth won both the JV matches that were contested. The doubles teams of Tynley Gantz-tallie Hundt and Marley Christy-alivia Kizer won for the Pilgrims.
