Lady Pilgrims win tourney

LAPORTE - Plymouth’s girls tennis team ended a busy week by winning the Slicer Tournament Saturday.

In the first match, Plymouth blanked Boone Grove 5-0, while not losing a single game amongst all five varsity matches. Senior Olivia Newcomb, playing in her first varsity match, combined with Cassidy Riddle to shut out their opponents at 2D.

In the championsh­ip match, Plymouth topped a solid Laporte team, 3-2. Winning their matches for the Pilgrims were Aubrey Vervynckt (1S), Bella Kain (2S), and 2D Cassidy Riddle-annie Plothow, all in straight sets. Taylor Delp and Ellie Jones at No. 1 doubles split sets and lost in a super-tiebreaker. Four wins in three days improves the Lady Pilgrims’ season record to 12-1. Senior Night is at home versus Wawasee today at 5:30 p.m. The NLC tournament is later in the week.
