Lions’ Douglass makes it official
BREMEN - Aaron Douglass has signed a letter of intent to attend Bethel University located in Mishawaka, Indiana, where he will run track and cross country for the Pilots.
A two-sport athlete for the Lions, Douglass will earn seven varsity letters participating in both cross country and track.
Despite the cancellation of the 2020 track season due to COVID-19 and with spring track still in progress, Aaron helped lead Bremen to two track championships at the Kouts Invitational and a title at the Winamac Invitational. As a junior, Douglass was a member of the 1600m relay team that received All Northern Indiana Conference honors and later qualified for the IHSAA regional tournament. He also qualified for the 2021 regional in the 1600m run and as a senior, he serves as team captain.
In cross country, the senior captain received ALL-NIC honors by placing ninth overall at the conference tournament. After advancing to the regional for four years, Aaron qualified for a semi-state in 2021 and was named the team’s Most Valuable Runner. During his career,
Bremen recorded three runner-up finishes in the NIC South and the Lions picked up a championship at the Nierste Invitational.
Academically, Douglass carries a 4.02 grade point average that ranks fourth in the class of 2022. The two-time NIC Allacademic Honors recipient, Douglass also was recognized by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross-country Coaches with Academic All-state honors. He will be pursuing a degree in computer science at Bethel. Aaron is the son of Brad and Wendy Douglass.
“Aaron has been a stalwart competitor on our track team for the past four years,” said Bremen High School track coach Mark Yoder. “He certainly embodies the team motto of EXCELLENCE in his training, his academics, and his relationships. His commitment to his teammates and his own core values have provided a wonderful example of a young person who has demonstrated a life of purpose. We are very proud of Aaron and can’t wait to see him compete collegiately for the Pilots and to witness the impact he will have as a student-leader. Thank you, Aaron, for your dedication to Lions Track!”
