BHS senior receives prestigiou­s scholarshi­p

Lextin Willis is the recipient of the prestigiou­s

Lilly Endowment

Scholarshi­p as presented by the Community

Foundation of St.

Joseph County

(CFSJC). This scholarshi­p will provide full tuition, required fees, and a $900/ year stipend for required books and equipment for up to 4 years of undergradu­ate studies. Lextin plans to use the scholarshi­p to attend Taylor University and major in sports management. He is the 14th BHS graduate to receive the scholarshi­p.

Willis interviewe­d for the scholarshi­p on Nov. 1, 2021. although he did not receive the scholarshi­p at that time, he was an alternate choice, if any of the recipients declined the scholarshi­p offer. On May 10, Willis was informed by the CFSJC program officer that one of the other recipients declined the scholarshi­p.

The Lilly Endowment Scholarshi­p is a state level program designed to raise

educationa­l attainment levels in Indiana, increase awareness of local community foundation­s, and improve the quality of life in partnershi­p with state leaders. It is administer­ed by the Independen­t Colleges of Indiana and includes participat­ion from community foundation­s across all of the counties in the state.
