Wild Rose Moon offers Media Production Internship
Wild Rose Moon accepted a check in the amount of $41,470.00 from the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Planning Team on Thursday.
Director of Wild Rose Moon George Schricker said, “as far as I’m concerned this is a dream come true for the Moon because from the beginning I conceived of the Moon as an educational institution primarily, that being its primary function.”
Schricker referred to the Moon as a creative classroom. “We just concentrate on making really great productions so that we can train people in doing that. To me this is like a great opportunity to bring more interns and more great people in to the Moon to train them.”
Third year intern Katie Smith is a Communications Major at Hope College, Holland. She said that this year is much different form her first year as she had started during the pandemic. “It’s been an opportunity to grow as an advocate for myself in a workplace, especially in an artistic workplace because I’m often just the artist and I don’t see any of the ‘behind the scenes’.”
She described her internship as a learning experience. “I didn’t know a whole lot about production at all and that is what I am specializing in this year.”
Not only is Smith meeting and promoting talent, her role at WRM includes image capture.
Smith said she feels heard and supported at WRM despite being quite a bit younger than most of the team. “Even though a lot of the people who work here are much older than me and have a bunch more experience than I do, this is a place where I still feel very comfortable speaking up saying, ‘I have an idea. We could try this!” She is met with encouragement and a willingness to put her ideas in to action. “It’s a very unique place,” she smiled.
