A ranking to look at (your own risk)

- By Ron Haramia Sports Writer

All of the talk involving college football this week will be about the first reveal of the College Football Playoff Rankings that came out Tuesday night. Instead of getting into that, I would like to give credit where it isn’t due: the little guys, the teams in the limelight for all the wrong reasons, teams that maybe you have not heard of - and for good reason.

This is just for fun of course and an ode to former Los Angeles Times reporter Steve Harvey (no, not the Family Feud guy), who used to do a Bottom 10 until about 15 years ago. ESPN Senior Writer Ryan Mcgee picked it up after Harvey stopped and it is a regular feature on that website. I might be half as smart as those two writers so I offer you a Bottom 5 for college football at this point in the 2022 season.

Rank/team/record Last loss

1. Akron (1-8) Miami (Ohio) bye week!!!

2. No Mass (1-7) New Mexico St. Uconn

3. gone South, Florida (1-7) Houston Temple

4. Northwestern (1-7) Iowa Ohio State

5. Michigan State (3-5) Prez, Mich and players more players? Lousy Game This Week: No Mass (1-7) vs. Arkansas St. (2-7)

Wipeout of the Week: Ohio St. (8-0) vs. Northwestern (1-7)

notes i: In Akron’s latest loss, its 8th straight after winning the season opener, the backup QB was assessed two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after an illegal block was called on a two-point conversion. The result of the penalties made the next PAT attempt to take place from the 47-yard line. It was unsuccessful, losing 27-9 instead of 27-11. The Zips’ spot at No. 1 could be in jeopardy this week as they have a bye so there’s a high probability they won’t lose.

notes ii: Michigan State had a particularly bad week. Not only did they lose to in-state rival Michigan, but four players were suspended for assaulting a Michigan player in the tunnel after the game. Those may end up being criminal charges. On top of that, the university just had its third president since 2018 resign because he lost confidence in the board of trustees.
