Home games for area teams concludes busy Wk 3
There is a full slate of high school girls basketball games this weekend, with most of them taking place on the home courts of our area teams.
HS basketball
For a couple of schools, this is a busy three-game week. Here are capsule previews for some of the top games locally Friday and Saturday.
Frantic Friday Jimtown @ Glenn
Glenn (2-3) ends the week with home games on backto-back nights starting with a visit from Jimtown (1-4) for a Northern Indiana Conference tussle Friday. The Lady Jimmies come in with three straight losses and the Lady Falcons would love to make it four. Glenn won last year’s meeting handily, 62-27, and has won the last 12 in the series convincingly, and yet the reputable John Harrell website is predicting a 42-39 Jimtown win. Interesting.
Bremen @ SB Riley
This trip to South Bend Riley (1-3, 0-2 NIC) will be Bremen’s (1-4, 1-1 NIC) third NIC contest of the young season. In the Wildcats’ three losses they have given up a whopping 212 total points (71 avg.), including 95 to the state’s No. 1 team, South Bend Washington, Tuesday night. Bremen is averaging 38 ppg, but that probably goes up after this one.
Laville @ CGA
Laville’s (3-1) first game in nearly a week will be an intriguing match-up with Culver Girls Academy (4-2) as both teams are off to great starts. Last year’s meeting was decided by just one point (LV winning, 28-27). This will be CGA’S last game for 11 days due to the school’s extended Thanksgiving break.
Trinity @ Argos
Argos (1-3) begins Hoosier Plains Conference play with this home game against potential sectional foe Trinity (1-4). The Lady Dragons have never lost to the Lady Titans in nine games overall, including twice last year by 27 points (regular season) and 22 (sectionals), respectively.
Kouts @ Oregon-davis
After three straight road games, Oregon-davis (1-3 before Wed vs Bowman Academy) returns to the Bobcat Den to face Kouts (1-3 before Thur vs North Judson). The Lady Bobcats are hoping to avenge last year’s 60-32 loss to the Fillies.
Saturday showdowns Valparaiso @ Plymouth
Plymouth’s (2-2 before Thurs vs Triton) threegame week ends at home with this tilt against visiting Valparaiso. The Lady Vikings’ early-season undefeated mark is impressive at 4-0, but they have only played one team with a winning record and their opponents’ combined record is just 5-12.
Tippecanoe Valley @ Glenn
Glenn’s three-game week ends with a visit from potential sectional foe Tippecanoe Valley (4-2). After winning their first three games, the Lady Vikings last their next two, but defeated Northwood Tuesday night. The Lady Falcons and Lady Vikings have only played each other twice in the last 21 years. Glenn was a sixpoint winner two seasons ago. The last meeting before that was way back in November of 2001. Saturday’s game is a 4:30 pm varsity start.
Wawasee @ #12* Triton
Class 1A No. 12* Triton (2-1 before tonight vs Plymouth) faces its second straight Northern Lakes Conference team when it hosts Wawasee (3-2 before Fri vs Concord) Saturday. Both teams have played - and defeated - Manchester this year; Triton won by 10 and Wawasee by 18. The Lady Warriors have an NLC game 24 hours before Saturday’s contest at the Trojan Trench so maybe they will be drained from that or just overlooking the Lady Trojans. Wawasee has a first-year coach in Derek Gilreath.
Culver @ #9* Pioneer
Culver’s (2-3 before tonight vs Elkhart Christian) third game of three this week has them traveling to Royal Center to face Class 2A No. 9* Pioneer (2-0 before Fri vs Knox) for a Hoosier North Athletic Conference tussle. This will be the second game on back-to-back nights for Pioneer. The Lady Cavaliers have lost the last six meetings to the Lady Panthers with the last win coming in November of 2015.
