CMA could be a major player again
CULVER — Culver Academy nearly reached the 20-win mark again last season and gave state finalist Mishawaka Marian one of its toughest games (a one-point win in the regional final).
The Eagles could be one of the major players again this season as its two top scorers - seniors Cooper Farrall and Thomas Collins - return from a year ago return.
The 6-foot-6 guard Farrall, a Bentley University commit, averaged over 20 ppg and was one of the top juniors in the state. Sharpshooter Collins was over 11 ppg and should see an expanded role this year. Classmate
Folabomi Fayemi provides another solid player giving Culver Academy a strong nucleus. Other returning letterwinners are seniors Darius Holland and Luke Vincent, plus junior Jack Rodgers. Newcomers to watch include sophomores Wade Seddelmeyer, Luka Paic, Jack Christiansen and Miles Barger, along with freshman Claude Mpouma.
“I believe our strength will be our defense and size, but we have a long way to go defensively,” said head coach Mark Galloway, now in his 13th year at the Acacemy. “The expectation is that we will be playing our best basketball at the end of February and going into March.”
Galloway is assisted by Blaine Schafer, Doug Snyder, Braydon Davidson,
Ed Kelley and Jacob Bird.
The Eagles will be one of the first area teams to play when they open at Fleet Gymnasium Nov. 21 against a historically formidable Indianapolis Homeschool team. Other schedule highlights include tough road games at state finalist Chesterton, at Mishawaka Marian, at Park Tudor, at Marquette Catholic, at Merrillville, and at Gary 21st Century. Key home games include Lafayette Central Catholic (Dec. 9) and South Bend Saint Joseph (Jan 31).
Culver Academy will be part of a new sectional this season and, most likely, will be co-favorites with Glenn. Other teams in the field are Bremen, Knox and Tippecanoe Valley.
