Dragne and Meiser named Academy athletes of month
CULVER — CGA’S Alexis Dragne and CMA’S Cole Meiser have been named the athletes of the month for February.
Dragne from Elk Grove Village, Ill., was nominated by Culver fencing coach Thomas Mcnally.
“As captain, Alexis has led the women’s foil squad to their 10th straight conference squad title and took silver at the conference individual championships,” said Mcnally. “Along the way she collected one finalist, one bronze, one silver, and one gold medal in USA Fencing regional competition and earned national points in Juniors (U19) during this year’s North American Cup circuit.”
As the 108th ranked junior in the country, she has qualified to compete in USA Fencing’s Division 1 Championship in April.
Finally, Alexis has been recruited to fence at D1 Air Force Academy next year.
“Alexis is a model of hard work, commitment, and fighting spirit for all Culver
students,” said Mcnally.
Meiser from Culver, was named the boys winner this month after a stellar first season of wrestling.
Notable achievements for Meiser include qualifying for semi-state, placing first at the Culver Community Super Duals, and second place finishes at the Delphi Oracle Invitational, the CMA Invitational, and the Plymouth Sectional Tournament.
“Cole established himself as a solid member of
our lineup from day one,” said Culver wrestling coach Patrick Mulkerin. “As the season went on, he showed that he was capable of leading this team to several decisive dual meet victories that would have been a pipe dream last year. He was able to fulfill his goal of qualifying for semi-state as a freshman, and I think the sky is the limit for what he can accomplish in his sophomore season.”
