Glenn, CMA semi winners

KNOX - Glenn and Culver Academy defeated Bremen and Knox, respectively, in the Class 3A Sectional 18 semifinals Saturday.

GLENN 67, BREMEN 36

Bremen was upset-minded, but Glenn just had too many weapons. The Lions came out matching the Falcons, but a key moment in the first quarter — Bremen post man and leading scorer Baylor Orcutt getting his second foul — turned the tide. With Orcutt on the bench, the Lions had trouble replacing his offensive presence.

Bremen head coach Matt Miller says goodbye to his two seniors - Orcutt and AJ Ton.

“My admiration and respect for those guys really grew over the years especially this year. They were great leaders.”

Chase Miller and Joe Chrapliwy scored 14 points apiece for Glenn.

Knox gave Culver Academy more than they wanted, pushing them to the end. A knockdown battle from the start, the teams traded blows for 32 minutes with neither able to push out to more than a five-point lead until Knox was forced to foul late to regain possession. It was a one-point game through the first half and in the third quarter Knox clawed back for its only lead of the game with 4:40 to play in the quarter. Three ties and two lead changes later, the Academy hit a shot with :23 left in the third to give themselves a two-point advantage.

Cooper Farrall was a difference maker for the Eagles, hitting six of his 16 points in the fourth quarter. Folabomi Fayemi had 15 with six rebounds.

“No excuses, but a couple of calls didn’t go our way at big times,”said Knox boss Joe Eskridge. “You have to give all the credit to Culver. They are a great team and well coached. Our guys fought hard. They were able to hold us off down the stretch.”
