Marian University of Ancilla bowlers compete at Nationals

-

NEW YORK — College bowling Nationals were held in Cheektowaga, New York March 2-4.

Marian University of Ancilla women team held its own at nationals. Only three bowlers out of six were able to go compete. The average team competing had five to eight players, so only having three, then finishing 15th out of 19 was impressive.

Jasmine Huff finished her bowling career for Marian with 9th place out of 100 women in all events. Jasmine fell short 8 pins of placing 8th place, which would of made her part of the All American team.

Katherine Ford placed 24th and Erin Stacy placed 69th out Of 100 women in all events, also finishing their college careers.

“They did an amazing job this weekend staying positive and very long days at the alley starting each day at 7:30 a.m. until each night,” said coach Chasity Masterson. “We’re looking forward already to next season and trying to figure out a winning game plan to make Marian at the top several times next season.”

Jasmine walked away this season with spots on All Conference team, All Regional team and almost made All American. Katherine made All Regional team and the womens team ended conference with second in points and third place finish at regionals. “I’m so proud of each of them,” said Masterson.

Athletes not in attendance for national championship include Kayley Thornburg, Raven Sangster and Hope Walkowiak. Raven was named to the All Freshman team.

Results for Marian University of Ancilla mens team included Kody Horan ending his college career making the All American team, placing 8th out of 130 men in all events. Kody worked very hard to keep the top 8 through entire tournament. Freshman Dylan Pohl and Sean White placed 51st and 61st, keeping them in the top 50 percent. “I’m very proud of them for their hard work through long days at the alley,” said Masterson.

Colin Burger and Peter Kenney followed.

Sean also received Freshman of the Year award, made All Conference team, and All Freshman Team. Dylan made the All Freshman Team.

“These are big things as freshman and we look forward to seeing them grow next season,” said Masterson.

The mens team won the Sportsmanship Award at nationals, which was given

to the team and coach who not only helped each other, but was seen helping bowlers from other teams to stay positive and cheer them on during the whole tournament. This award represents character and integrity. This is an award that the whole team and Marian University of Ancilla should be most proud of because it shows heart and only one team out of all teams was chosen.

“I am very proud of this award and as their coach is something that I stress from day one,” said Masterson. “We’ve got big goals next season!”
