Final possession ends Falcons’ run

ELKHART — In a game with a lead change on nearly every possession, Delta made one more play and ousted Glenn in the semistate first round with a 50-47 win in the final 13 seconds.

A tightly played game that saw 23 lead changes, five ties, and only seven total turnovers, the only possession that mattered was the last one.

Delta playing for a final shot in the final minute was saved by crucial rebounds from D’mare Hood and Jackson Wors. Two straight three-point attempts from Jonny Manor bounced off the rim but thanks to Hood and Wors, Manor got a third try with 13 seconds left and made that one pay.

Brycen Hannah was able to get the ball to the rim on Glenn’s next possession but was called for charging and that would essentially end the game with 3.8 seconds.

“I thought we did everything right,” said Glenn head coach Travis Hannah. “We forced a non-shooter to shoot the basketball and the problem was he missed two in the previous possession and we didn’t rebound. He got a third opportunity and knocked it down.”

“The last play we got what we wanted,” he said. “We said we weren’t going to call time out. I would have liked to see Brycen (Hannah) get the inbound pass and spread the floor and let him go. We got jumbled up there and we had time-outs but I didn’t want them to get set defensively. I wanted to put pressure on them. We put the game in the official’s hands and he made a charge call.”

It was a wild finish to a very well-played game. Neither team had more than a one-possession lead after a 5-0 Delta start, as both teams mirrored each other for 32 minutes.

“Obviously it stinks but that’s high school basketball,” said Hannah. “Somebody has to lose. Unfortunately today they were one possession better than us.”

Glenn’s Brycen Hannah ended his stellar basketball career at Glenn with a stellar game. Hannah did what all great players do and took the big stage in the second half.

The Falcon senior post player had 22 points in the game 18 of those in the second half.

“I thought our kids played a great game,” said Hannah of his team. “We won 75 games in four years and there aren’t a whole lot of teams that can say they won 75 games in four years.”

“That’s a credit to our seniors Noah (Dreibelbis) and Brycen have led the charge with us,” he said. “We’ve had some really good players here but so much of it in the tournament is that everything has to line up perfectly and people don’t understand that. Honestly if Marian beats South Bend Washington two weeks ago, we may not be here because Marian has had our number over the years. It’s been a great run for these guys.”

The loss ends a great tournament run for the Falcons who knocked off Tippecanoe Valley, CMA, and South Bend Washington on the way.

“We’ve been smart and we’ve been disciplined the last couple of weeks and

that has been half the battle for us all year long,” said Hannah. “They were just one possession better than us today.”

Glenn ends their season as Sectional and Regional champs and a record of 17-11.
