Bremen Town Council discuss golf cart ordinance, fifth council seat, ARPA ordinance

- By Angela Cornell Staff Writer

bremen—during the recent bremen Town council meeting, the council discussed some issues that have been a matter of consideration for some time.

The ordinance approving an american Rescue Plan act (arpa) plan was approved on second and third readings, but can be amended if the council believes there’s a need. The town has been allocated $1,013,929.74, which the town will receive in three allotments between aug. 17, 2022 and July 23, 2023. The ordinance describes how the funds will go toward provision of government services. a few examples include maintenance, building of infrastructure (i.e. roads), cybersecurity modernization, health services, environmental remediation, school/ educational services, and public safety services.

at the next meeting, the council will consider a detailed spending plan that outlines the specific projects that will receive funding. “I think almost all of it is spoken for by one project or another at this point,” said Town attorney Tony Wagner.

Over the last seven months, the council, police department, and park board have worked together to create an ordinance to regulate golf cart safety in town. at this meeting, a draft was presented for and passed on first read. The second reading will be at the next meeting, July 24, at which time there will be a public hearing on the matter. The public can look over the ordinance before then by visiting facebook. com/bremenpolcedept. The proposed ordinance is in a post dated Monday, July 10.

another issue that came before them was adding a question to the ballot this fall about whether or not the public would like to add a fifth member to the council. Due to the expense of the election, the lack of urgency on the matter, and no advantage to posing the question this year, the council decided to postpone the question until the fall, 2024 election.
